Full description

"Jar of Jam" is a Harold variation where six performers create three parallel scenes with pairs of characters, but in each subsequent beat the pairs shuffle, creating new combinations.

The first beat establishes three independent scenes with pairs: A+B, C+D, E+F. Each scene develops its characters and relationships.

In the second beat the first shuffle happens: one performer from each pair stays, the second moves to the neighboring scene. Characters are preserved but meet in new combinations: A+C, D+F, B+E. This creates unexpected collisions of characters and situations.

The third beat makes another shuffle: A+E, B+D. The ninth and final scene begins with the pair F+C, but then all four remaining characters enter it one by one. Importantly, this is not group play β€” each entry is narratively justified, all characters organically gather in one scene toward the finale.

The format demands strong character memory and the ability to adapt characters to new partners and situations while preserving their nature and history.

Key rules

  • Scenes are edited as in classic Harold. It is critically important to preserve characters when changing partners β€” character, mannerisms, history remain, only the context and scene partner change. The final scene gathers everyone not through group play, but through organic, narratively justified entries of each character.
