A paired scene in a given location: two people play while the team secretly guesses five specific actions they might naturally perform. In 3 minutes the actors try to "hit" these actions without knowing the list. The format is useful for training observation, group mind, and relying on obvious physical actions.

Setup and Launch

Format: two people play a scene in one location, while the rest of the team secretly guesses five specific and observable actions they think these two will naturally do. The actors don't know the list and work as in a normal everyday scene.

Ask the group/audience for one location. Put headphones with loud music on the two actors so they can't hear the discussion. The others quickly formulate five actions; the host records them in writing and sets a 3-minute timer.

Play

The host controls the actors' isolation, cleanliness of conditions and timing, and tracks matches.

  1. Isolation: check that the actors' headphones are genuinely blocking the discussion (a brief volume test) and remind others to remain neutral during the scene.

  2. Collecting actions: the team agrees on five clear, physically distinct actions that are appropriate for the chosen location. The host writes down the wordings without ambiguity.

  3. Scene start: remove headphones, announce only the location, and start the 3-minute timer. Tell the actors to "play everyday and specifically," without hinting at the guessing game.

  4. Tracking: during the scene, the host silently marks off completed items and stops any hints from the team (gestures, cough-signals, eye-pointing).

  5. Stop and debrief: at the timer, stop the scene, announce which actions were completed, and briefly discuss what signals helped or hindered and what made the actions feel natural.

Key rules

  • Actions must be physically distinct and appropriate for the location; avoid ambiguous wording, otherwise the debrief turns into an argument over interpretation.

  • Verify the headphone volume before discussing the list β€” the actors must not hear a single word, otherwise the format's premise is lost.

  • Write the five actions in large print and verbatim; the host alone decides whether an action counts and explains the logic consistently.

  • Prohibit any hints from the team: facial expressions, cough-signals, eye pointing; remind them to keep neutral reactions.

  • Strictly hold the 3 minutes: the scene must stay dynamic and everyday, without hunting for a "quest" β€” this increases the naturalness of matches.
